Turkey on Thanksgiving Is So Last Year

In storytime this morning, I asked the children what they were doing for Thanksgiving.

Me: There's a special holiday later this week. What is it?

Kids: Thanksgiving!

Me: Right! What are you going to do to celebrate Thanksgiving?

Kid 1: I'm going to be a skunk!

Kid 2: I'm going to be a fireman!

Kid 3: I'm going to be a fairy princess!

Me: OK, let me tell you what *I'm* going to do on Thanksgiving. My parents and some good friends are coming over, and we're going to eat a nice dinner together and celebrate the things that make us happy. What about you?

Kid 4: I'm going to be Bob the Builder!

Kid 5: I'm going to be a ladybug!

Kid 6: I'm going to be a skunk, too!

Clearly I've been going about this Thankgiving thing all wrong. I need a costume for Thursday, stat.

Thanks for the chuckle. Reminds me of the old American show, "Art Linkletter's Kids Say the Darnest Things!"

You could dress up as a Pilgrim...but I guess that's not as cool as a fairy Princess!

Well, maybe a Pilgrim with wings... and a wand... and a tiara. Pilgrims wore tiaras, right?

oh, man, those kids are going to have way more fun on thanksgiving than i am.

SRSLY.

I'm usually pretty good at getting the group back on task after a derailment, but I guess Halloween's just a little too fresh in their minds still. I had to plunge into the next book before they could tell me about their Thanksgiving candy and Thanks-o-Lanterns.

I'd dress like a skunk too, but I do that about every other day anyway. I'll think of something, though, I'm sure.

How about a dust bunny?

This is too funny! I think everyone who reads this will be thankful for a good laugh. Happy Thanksgiving from the kids via Halloween. Jim

I've been thankful for the kiddies this week. When I first started this job, I was leery about working with this age group (2 and 3 year olds), but they really are such sweeties with their innocence and exuberance, their humor, their smiles and hugs and graham cracker breath. :-)

Just as long as no one dresses up as a turkey, you should all be fine at your Thanksgiving costume party. :)

Anyone who dresses as a turkey will be safe from this vegetarian! The person who dresses as an apple pie, on the other hand...

This line of conversation has me thinking of the holiday "dance" in Harriet the Spy now... Maybe I'll be an onion. Or a squash.

Heh. I'll be Kohlrabi then. And roll around on the floor in a root-vegetable-like sort of way. :)

This was so funny - thanks for sharing!

It's a challenge figuring out what's FUN about different holidays - and I guess dressing up and candy is hard to beat.

And in our house we're STILL eating the Halloween candy, too.

Maybe we can take all the leftover candy from Halloween and do some art project where we create a turkey candy sculpture out of it all???

Hmmm...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Lee

A turkey candy sculpture?! It makes my teeth hurt just thinking about it! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, too!

Thanks for hosting, Lisa!

I have an original haiku, Tea Flower.

Have a great day!
